ART OF 2012

Unless otherwise noted all content and all artwork is my own and copyrighted by Paul David Elsen

"In the Late Afternoon Shadows", oil on canvas, 18" X 24". Painting based upon my own image of the sculpture "Night" by Frederick Wellington Ruckstull, in the American Wing at The Met. (c)2012 Paul David Elsen.

"Stephen Siller", 11" X 14", oil on linen (based on anonymous still by CBS News). Stephen was the off duty fire fighter, who after finishing his shift and heading home on the morning of 9/11, re-donned his 60 lbs of gear, and ran through the Broklyn Battery Tunnel (which had already closed) to The World Trade Center, where he was ultimately killed. The famous annual Tunnel To Towers Run and a charitable foundation were inspired by his heroism and named in his honor.

"Jerry's August" oil on canvas, 12" X 12". Jerry Garcia was born and died in August, so it being that month, I thought I'd do a painting of him. This is a completely different style for me, I just wanted to experiment a bit. I was still going to work on it more, but I decided just to stop and leave it as is before I "smoothed" it out too much...I wanted it rough and blocky.

"Guy in baseball cap", oil on canvas, 9" X 12".
Dedicated to Karmen Elsen, for use of her photo, and her suggestion to paint it. A random gentleman caught sitting on a park bench, who Karmen thought had an interesting face.
